Put Down Your Phone

I’m not anti-technology at all. I like my iPhone, I like my computer, I like Netflix. But I don’t like how dependent people are with technology. I’ve noticed the past few weeks that my child likes to communicate with people. Being 14 months his communications skills aren’t the greatest, but multiple times a day he points to things, wants to show me things or looks to see if I’m paying attention. When I’m on my phone or computer or glued to the TV, I miss all these moments. I’m a blogger, so I do have to be on technology for parts of the day, but I try to schedule my technology time when he is sleeping so I can make the most out of the time I have with him. Life is too fast and is going to grow up and I don’t want to miss out on these opportunities. So I put my phone down. One thing that drives me CRAZY is when I’m trying to have a conversation with someone, and they can’t give me the time of day to look up from their phone to actually give me their attention. It’s rude and makes me think what I have to say doesn’t mean anything to them. Now, I’m not saying you can never be on your phone, just monitor your phone usage. One day you’re going to look up from your phone and no one will be there or your child will be grown. So, put down your phone! At least more often so you can actually be living in the moment with your loved ones and not living on social media. Food for thought.
